Brijuni, the Istrian archipelago and national park in Croatia, consists of 14 islands and islets, with a total area of 33.9 km². Their rich history includes traces of human activity since the third millennium BC, after which the islands were inhabited by Illyrians, Romans and Byzantines. Thanks to its coast, history and diverse flora and fauna, Brijuni became a national park in 1983 and is a favorite tourist destination called "heaven on Earth".
